Cataract screening
General screening of eye diseases is done for those patients who come for the camp and patients with Cataract are selected for surgery at the Base Hospital. It is being conducted in Salem, Thirupur and Coimbatore hospitals on a regular basis with the help of Lotus Vision Research Trust, District Blindness Control Society and other NGO’s like Rotary Club, Lion’s Club etc. Cataract surgery is done free of charge for the selected patients with accommodation and food provided by the hospital. Other patients, who need further work up, are referred to the hospital and given concession for consultation, investigations and treatment.
School screening
Screening for eye diseases in the school and colleges is being done on a regular basis and there is a separate optometry unit with paramedical staff and transport vehicle. Checked children are given a health card. Children with some eye defects are referred to the hospital and treatment is done at a concession of 50%.
Corporate screening
A Memorandum of Understanding is executed with the corporate companies so that their employees and family members have access to the world class advanced facilities with special schemes in the Lotus Eye Care Hospital. In addition, Public Awareness programs are conducted about Eye Donation, the care of eyes, the importance of eye checkup and consequence of eye diseases, if not treated early.
